WAITING
FOR THE SHADOW REPORTS AND OBSERVATIONS [PAST ECLIPSES] |
||
On August 1st 2008, the Moon's shadow touched down in Arctic Canada. It raced across the north pole, down across Svaalbard, across Russia, Mongolia and finally reached the Gobi desert northeast of Jiayuguan, in Gansu Province, China, where three hundred enthusiastic people were eagerly waiting for the shadow's arrival. The clouds seen below the Sun in this image were playing hide and seek with the Sun until just twenty minutes before totality! Twenty minutes before totality I confidently declared to my good friend Bengt Alfredsson who was set up a few metres to my right, "we're in the clear, we're going to see it." And we did!
