TOTAL SOLAR ECLIPSE
ARGENTINA -  JULY 2, 2019

Saturday 29th June, 2019.

After our quick reconnaisance of the eclipse observing areas, we arrived in San Juan last night at 7pm and moved into our apartment.  Looks like two eclipse chasers moved in.......gear everywhere.  Today was housekeeping day, banks, groceries, and a hunt for those little things that we left behind. For me it was spring back paperclips that I use to hold my solar filter in place.  For Terry, a roll of tape to secure water bottles as ballast to his mounting.

Artu, our host, came by after lunch and we paid him for the apartment.  All done!
Then we headed north for a more careful survey of the observation zone and potential sites.

These are the ranges from which we will be observing.
Our

Our prime site is the lookout, "Mirrador Sierra de la Crucecita." Over the last two visits, we've discovered that the wind up there can be ferrocious so we have found a couple of sheltered sites that have good western horizons but where we are in a wind shadow.

(below left). The first site is a dry gravel riverbed  The sun sets near the low point on the horizon.
(below right) Behind us are mountains and places where we can get right out of the wind. The ground is very firm so we can drive the car right onto the dry river bed.

The second site is similar but vastly scaled down and provides more shelter from strong wind if required.

Next we went back up to Crucecita.

Do I look happy?

And now for the weather...........

All for now..............
