Comets: [Telescopic comets, no naked eye]

There are three brightish comets in the sky. None  are obvious to the naked eye.
  • C/2022 E3 ( ZTF )
This is the comet that is all over the media as the "rare green comet." It is currently observable from northern latitudes.  In SE Australia, it will appear on the  north horizon on Feb 5 but still won't be visible due to  its very low altitude and bright light interference from the full Moon. It's more easily observable in the NSW region from around 9 Feb. ......more on Joe's Comet Page

  • C/2017 K2 ( PanSTARRS )
It is observable at 7.5-8 mag for many months into this year
Finder Chart for Feb 10,11,12  ......more on Joe's Comet Page

  • Comet Machholz 96P
Very bright but too close to the Sun and hidden in twilight so it
is only observable by orbiting solar observatories.
